Winfried Denk studied physics at the Ludwig- Maximilians University in Munich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and Cornell University (PhD ‘89). He is now director of the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology in Martinsried. A member of the US National Academy of Sciences, he won the Kavli Prize in 2012 and the BRAIN PRIZE in 2015.

Jesse Goldberg joined Cornell in 2012 as an assistant professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior.  He received an MD and PhD from Columbia University and did his postdoctoral work at MIT.  He is a Kavli Fellow, a Pew Scholar and a recipient of a New Innovator Award from the National Institute of Health.

Karel Svoboda was an undergraduate at Cornell University (’88) and received a PhD in biophysics from Harvard University. Currently he is a Group Leader at the Janelia Research Campus, Howard Hughes Medical Institute.  He is a member of the US and Hungarian National Academies of Science and winner of the BRAIN PRIZE in 2015.

Nozomi Nishimura joined the faculty of the Department of Biomedical Engineering as an assistant professor in 2013.  Her doctoral work was done at UCSD, and her postdoctoral work at Cornell.  She has received the L’Oréal USA Fellowship for Women in Science, Optical Society of American Rising Stars Award, and an NSF Career Award.

Melissa Warden joined Cornell in 2013 as an assistant professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior.   She did her doctoral work at MIT and postdoctoral work at Stanford. She is a Sloan Foundation Fellow, a Robertson Neuroscience Investigator and was the recipient of a NARSAD Young Investigator Award for the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation and a New Innovator Award from the National Institute of Health.

David W. Tank is the Henry L. Hillman professor of neuroscience and molecular biology at Princeton University and Co-Director of the Princeton Neuroscience Institute.  He received his PhD from Cornell in 1983. He is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences and winner of the BRAIN PRIZE in 2015.
